Tacoma Narrows Bridge Website

Tacoma, WA

This WSDOT educational web site project presents the history of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, including some previously inaccessible information about the first bridge, “Galloping Gertie.” The site is one element of a Memorandum of Agreement requirement between the Washington State Department of Transportation and the Washington State Historic Preservation Office for adverse impact mitigation related to construction of the New Tacoma Narrows Bridge.

CRC developed the web site themes and produced all historical and archaeological text for WSDOT’s web site. CRC also had responsibility for generating educational materials to be available online. Prior to initiating research for this project, CRC conducted focus groups with teachers in order to develop the most effective presentation of information. CRC then hired several teachers to prepare appropriate lesson-related materials.

The site has been awarded the National Transportation Public Affairs Award (2004) and was designated a 9th Annual Webby Awards Webby Worthy Selection (2005).
