CRC capabilities include cultural resources sensitivity evaluation and modeling; literature searches; cultural resources surveys to locate, identify, and evaluate archaeological and historic property surveys; data recovery and mitigation excavations; historic context studies; geomorphological/geoarchaeological investigations; environmental audits and assessments; construction monitoring; National Register Nominations and HABS/HAER recordation. CRC prepares technical reports, regulatory documents for state and federal compliance (including SEPA, NEPA, Section 106, and Washington State Executive Order 05-05), cultural resources mitigation plans, Memoranda of Agreements, permit documentation, cultural resources inventory forms, and computer databases.
CRC typically provides the following project components as part of a cultural resources assessment:
Archival Review
CRC conducts recorded sites files searches at the Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP); review relevant correspondence between the project proponent, stakeholders and DAHP; and, review pertinent environmental, archaeological, ethnographic and historical literature appropriate to the project area.
Field Identification
CRC provides field inventories of project locations for identification of archaeological and historical resources and, if necessary, conducts subsurface testing or other exploratory excavations in environments that might contain buried archaeological deposits. Field methods are consistent with DAHP guidelines.
Documentation of Findings
CRC documents and records historic properties within the project area, including preparation of Washington State archaeological and/or historic site(s) forms and National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) Determination of Eligibility (DOE) forms (as appropriate). Documentation is consistent with DAHP standards.
Preparation of Cultural Resources Assessment Report
CRC prepares technical reports that details background research, field methodology, results of the investigation, and management recommendations. CRC’s reports provide supporting documentation of archaeological findings, including maps and photographs, and conform to DAHP reporting standards.
